Phoenix’s Emmy Recap
This year’s Emmy Awards were, in one word, unexciting. Even our nominees for best dressed did not light up the red carpet. However we do have a couple that stood out from the crowd. So, let’s get straight into it. Our first best dressed nominee is Kaley Cuoco. Is it just me, or was she the only one who wore true fall colors? Rocking a maroon Vera Wang and matching maroon makeup, she committed to her look and we applaud her. Since we usually see her character on the Big Bang Theory in jeans and a tank top, this was a nice surprise. Also, just a couple honorable mentions go to Sofia Vergara, who always seems to look fantastic, and Allison Williams who could do no wrong with classic Ralph Lauren.
Now, on to one of our worst dressed nominees, Zosia Mamet, cast member of the HBO show Girls. The dress had potential but I think everyone was too distracted by the awful bralette that drew attention to exactly the wrong place. Though the concept could have worked (well, probably not) it made her bust seem way disproportionate to the rest of her body. Yikes, let’s move on shall we. Our next star is officially our Worst Dressed of the 2013 Emmys. It’s another Girls star, Lena Dunham! The creator and protagonist of Girls wore Prada, but we think it’s actually her tablecloth. Forgive our harsh words, but this dress added width in all the wrong places. Her tendency to look like an old lady on the red carpet and a twelve year old in her show is just too confusing.
Now on a better note, let’s announce our best dressed star; Tina Fey, creator and star of 30 Rock who portrays the all too relatable Liz Lemon. Slightly unexpected? Sure, but this is why we’ve given it to her. Her progression through the years on the red carpet has sometimes been cringe worthy, but with her dress choices in 2012 and this year have been fantastic. Her custom made Narcisco Rodriguez dress was fit to a tee. All in all, sexy and smart always wins.
